In honor of the Sunday news shows…

…and of the fact that #NSAPickupLines is trending (hilariously!) on Twitter, I thought I’d share this that I found on Twitter but is most definitely not mine. My thoughts, but sadly not my creation.

Like I said, I claim no credit for this. If you do and you don’t want it here, I’ll take it down the moment you say the word.

Why is this news? (Part 1)

John Edwards’ Wife Tore Off Shirt and Collapsed Over His Affair – ABC News.

There are so many things wrong with the sad, sordid tell of former Senator and presidential candidate John Edwards. And that particular headline is really only one of many.

I have to say, in the interest of full disclosure, that I very much wanted John Edwards to be elected president, or at least vice-president, in 2004. In 2008, I still preferred him over Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

In terms of his politics, I still stand by that.

In terms of his life choices, well, not so much.

Edwards is currently on trial for illegally using campaign contributions to keep his mistress hidden. Name a politician who hasn’t done that.

Whether that’s illegal or not, I don’t know. I’m no legal expert but, if I were on the jury, I’d have to say that Edwards committed a sin, but no crime.

That’s not the saddest part, though. The saddest part is headlines like this, stories like this. While I was checking up on the news about the trial, I saw headlines about how his daughter fled the courtroom in tears during the testimony about her mother. Why is that news?

Why are we as a society so fixated on the sex lives of people we see on our computer screens and our televisions? What business is it of ours?

This whole thing makes my skin crawl.
