How do you solve a problem on your computer?

Computers are both the nectar of my existence and the bane of it. Having one for as long as I’ve had it, I can’t see myself ever living without it. However I am not at all good at dealing with the problems bound to crop up simply because I own a computer. I like to think of myself as cool and collected enough to sort through anything. But I’m always so afraid that I’ll screw something up by trying to fix something… I don’t know how to get over that.

I can Google solutions with the best of them. That’s the easy part. Implementing the solutions is another thing entirely. Especially when the instructions involve seemingly random groups of letters like DHCP and DNS and ISP and networks (the latest things I’ve seen) and such things. I can’t help but think “what if I make it worse? how will I survive?”

That may be a bit overdramatic but it’s true.

There’s also the problem that I didn’t know Microsoft was pulling support for Windows 7 until literally the day before it happened. I realize this may be my fault. It may explain the new problems I’m noticing. However, seeing that Windows 10 is going to be free soon, I’d rather not have to buy Windows 8.1 just to need to update that too. So if Windows 10 could hurry up and be released, that’d be fantastic.

In the meantime, I’ll just keep Googling and working up the nerve to patch it up while I wait.

Incidentally, if you’re reading this and know anything about DNCP (I think that’s the right order of the letters) and DNS as related to ISP (I know that’s Internet Service Provider), drop me a comment and point me in the right direction? I’ll owe you one.

Now I think I’ll go and see if there’s an update for my aging router. (Also, when my internet has been dropped lately, my router is still lit green and seems to be going… if that helps figure out my problem.) Maybe that’s the problem. I’ve seen some mentions of routers as related to these letters I’m seeing…

Funny Things: Googling ‘how to store we…’

So yesterday I was helping my sister look up the best way to store her wedding dress. Naturally, I turned to the ever helpful Google for answers.

You know that feature that Google has where it sort of tries to guess what you’re typing in and find the answer before you do? It can be hysterical! Trust me.

I went there and typed in how to store we

Can you guess what the top five things that Google thought I was trying to search for? No? I’ll tell you.

(and this is in the order that Google gave me, mind you)

  1. how to store weed
  2. how to store wedding dress
  3. how to store weed long term
  4. how to store wedding cake
  5. how to store weed without smell
I kid you not. Is that hysterical? Two out of the three top five results in the little search bar thingy have to do with weed? What does that say about humanity?
If it wasn’t so funny, I might be more worried!
I’m also curious to see what sort of searches find this blog now that I’ve mentioned storing weed.
Do you have any other funny Google search results? Tell me!
